In 2001 I was diagnosed with acromegaly. What's that, you ask? It's arare hormone disorder, often referred to as insidious because the onset is sogradual. Acromegaly means big hands and feet in Greek. It's caused byexcessive growth hormone secreted by a benign tumor on the pituitary glandwhich causes enlargement of the bones and soft tissues. It's oftenmisdiagnosed. I had microsurgery to remove the tumor on September 11, 2001(yes, that September 11th!). For more information check WebMD.
